The Problem

Our faith group consists of just 12 couples—but when you account for parents, children, and now grandchildren, the group represents over 100 people. Keeping track of who was who, who needed prayer, and what was happening in people's lives became increasingly difficult.

During prayer time, we struggled to remember:

  • Who was experiencing challenges
  • Which prayer requests were ongoing
  • Whether prayers had been answered

Event coordination was equally chaotic. Emails went back and forth, attendance changed, and it was nearly impossible to keep track of who was coming, who was bringing which meal components, and the most up-to-date information. Important details were scattered across inboxes, text threads, and people's memories.

The Solution

I designed and built Faith Group Tracker, a private web application that gives the group a single, trusted place to manage people, events, and prayer requests—without losing the personal, relational nature of the group. The solution focused on three core areas:

Faith Group Tracker welcome page
Colorful family directory
1

Family Directory

A centralized family section that captures the full scope of the group—couples, parents, children, and grandchildren—so everyone can easily understand who's who. This also enables sending notices and updates to the entire group from one place.

2

Events & Coordination

A shared events system that replaces email chaos with clarity. Members can indicate whether they're attending, update their attendance if plans change, and sign up for meal components in one place.

To make participation easier, a texting capability was added so members can respond quickly without needing to check email.

Simple text commands allow members to RSVP, submit prayer requests, and manage notifications—making adoption effortless

3

Prayer Requests & Tracking

A dedicated prayer section that allows the group to capture prayer requests in one place, track ongoing needs, and mark prayers as answered over time.

AI-Powered Workflow
  • Prayer go-arounds are recorded and transcribed with speaker diarization
  • AI analyzes the transcript to identify prayer requests
  • The database is automatically updated with current requests

This ensures nothing is missed and prayer needs are carried forward accurately.

Outcome

The application transformed how the group operates:

Everyone has shared visibility into people, events, and prayer needs
Event coordination is simple and stress-free
Prayer requests are tracked thoughtfully over time, not forgotten
Communication is faster and more inclusive through texting

Most importantly, the system supports the group's relationships instead of getting in the way.

Technical Approach

Faith Group Tracker is built with privacy and simplicity as primary concerns. The React-based interface is designed for non-technical users, with clear language and intuitive navigation that feels natural rather than corporate.

Supabase provides secure authentication and real-time data synchronization, ensuring that when someone updates their RSVP or adds a prayer request, everyone sees the change immediately. SMS integration through Twilio allows members to participate without constantly checking email.

The AI transcription feature uses Gemini to process prayer go-arounds, identifying individual speakers and extracting prayer requests with context. This automation removes the burden of manual note-taking while preserving the personal, conversational nature of prayer time.
